History of Skyscrapers

Jayne Building

was located at 238 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia, PA and was completed in 1850 and demolished in 1958. This building was designed by Thomas U. Walter and stood 130 feet tall with 10 floors, arguably the first skyscraper ever built. The Jayne Building was the home of the patent medicine firm Dr. David Jayne and Sons, which in its day was one of the largest medicine companies in the U.S. This pewter replica stands 5-5/8 inches tall and is finished in a brown stain. This building's scale is 1 inch = 25 feet.
